It’s a Sunday afternoon and I’m pretty happy. It’s actually Father’s Day. I’m reflecting on my life and how my favorite man, made me who I am, although he is no longer here. Are you allowed to even say you’re happy, given the crazy ass world we find ourselves in today? Hmmm, I don’t know. But, what I do know, is that I will never let the news, the government, the riots, the injustice, the divide…. NONE OF IT is gonna ruin my life or ruin my joy.

I’ve sat back and watched all that is happening to us. Right now, it’s still unfolding. I get mad- I mean, really mad. I hate injustice. I’m for the underdog. But, what REALLY gets my goat is how able the collective is to dismiss certain parts of our heritage while the perception is that we are ‘helping’ society. This sick society that seems to be magnetic to drama and anything unkind. God help us. We want him to, but seems to me, the very people that want that help forgot who they should be asking to help them.

Society is what it is. We were born in America. We have roots. We have families. We have traditions. We have situations and experiences that have taught us who we want to be, what we don’t want to be, who we strive to be and what we aspire towards. Now, @blacklivesmatter #blacklivesmatter, I hear you. I’m just confused about discrimination. So, please, hear me out.
I am not racist. No way. I’ve fought for people treating each other as ‘souls’ for many minutes and hours of my life. I’ve dated outside my nationality and I’ve learned what various people go through in this world. But, still, I’m upside down.
Black people are souls. The color of their skin has nothing to do with ANYTHING at ALL. I do believe that ‘people’ (not meaning whites) have had issues with the black race because when you’re raised together, side by side, KNOWING my friends are not slaves or neither are their family, it gets a bit confusing. The biggest issue most people have is that black people tend to make everything about their race. Is that fair??

Now, let me be clear. I’m not talking about the injustice with the police. Some are good and some just ARE NOT. I’ve had to witness it myself. There are so many cops that have a power trip and control issues and honestly, I think it just goes back to how they were treated as children and teens. The treatment could have been from their dad, a relative in their family or their peers.
I know it may not be popular to say, but I will anyway. Black people must stop screaming about their skin color. If you stop, everyone stops. You got BET, Black Miss America….. so, if it’s ok, can I put together a ‘White’ Miss America pageant? Whereas, blacks are excluded? We get it. I didn’t have slaves, nor did my family. These are historical events that created a web and thread of our history.

I understand what is happening and for the big picture, it’s delightful. The big picture looks like the “globe of people” heard the USA tell the government, “we ain’t doin this no more. That’s it!” I just want my friends who have a better tan than me to realize that we love you. We fight for you cause you’re our friends. Our best friends. You show us empowerment & sacrifice. You show us a lineage of sacrifice & how your ancestors have overcome all the obstacles to give their babies a fighting chance in this arena of life. If you will, please stop for moment & remember. You have bands & crews of white skin honkeys that have been loving on you for decades. Don’t forget us when you stand up. Please remember there happens to be an abundance of souls who love you, respect & appreciate what you need and what you deserve as a human. But, you have to love us back. Appreciate us. Let us remember our heritage and not be afraid that we offend someone if we are just enjoying or reminiscing about things that bring us joy and comfort.

I’m mad that Aunt Jemima @auntjemima did what they ‘do’ this week. What a wreck. Aunt Jemima was a sentimental, wholesome attribute for the black community, but honestly, the American fiber. You strip us of something that had no negative connotation, but now, we have ego think about what was wrong with the company that made that pancake syrup we have been buying for 30 years. WTF? There was nothing wrong with it.

I’m begging for #millenials @millenials to stop building cases for society until you understand the layers and fibers of what you do. It’s easy to speak your mind and think your actions are valid, but you are setting yourself up for failure. You have big numbers and supposedly, your reign is here. Please be responsible. Please don’t ‘protest’ just to have something to do. Do it for the right reasons and make sure if you’re gonna stand up for discrimination, then stand up for all who are discriminated against daily. Blacks, Hispanics, Middle Easterners; whites, red, yellow, all of us. Don’t segregate discrimination. Don’t be a hypocrite. Stop it –ALL of it. We ALL matter. If we’re gonna do a revolt, then let’s really make it matter. Show the world that our skin is not who we are, but our soul & spirit. We are all souls….. we just wear different costumes. Respect it. Nurture it. Love it.
